Mississippi Burn Center
A dedicated unit for adult and pediatric burn patients
The Mississippi Burn Center, a dedicated burn unit inside Batson Tower, is a 9,000 square-foot space providing a specialized environment for the care of adult and pediatric burn patients.
About the burn unit
The burn unit combines acute treatment and rehabilitation services under one roof. Because burn patients are at risk for infection, admission to the Mississippi Burn Center allows patients to receive complex care in a protected environment.
Schedule care at the Burn Center
Patients: Call 911 for emergencies. For non-emergencies, call 601-984-BURN (2876)
Physicians: MED-COM - 601-984-4367
UMMC providers: In Epic, "Consult to Burn"
The unit includes eight patient rooms, each ICU-capable. The unit's specialized room for wound debridement minimizes patients' need for trips to the operating room. Equipped with a shower table, adjustable temperature controls and a television for entertainment, the space helps keep patients at ease during procedures necessary for preventing infection. When surgery is needed, patients can access OR suites in the same tower, minimizing transport time and improving continuity of care.
In the burn center's rehabilitation gym, physical and occupational therapists help patients regain strength, flexibility and mobility. This specialized therapy supports long-term recovery and return to life.
